What is a verb?

Definition of Verb
A verb is a word or combination of words that indicates action or a state of being.
فعل ایک لفظ یا الفاظوں کا مجموعہ ہے جو عمل یا ہونے کی حالت یا حالت کی نشاندہی کرتا ہے

A verb is a word that expresses :
A physical action جسمانی کام/عمل | plays | Ali plays hockey. |

Stative Verb with Examples:
A verb that shows a situation is known as a stative verb.
They are, like, have, think, own.

This bag belongs to me. | یہ بیگ میرا ہے۔ |

I have believed in ghosts since I was a child. | میں بچپن سے بھوتوں پر یقین رکھتا ہوں۔ |
Dynamic verb with Examples
Those verbs in which there is an action or event there is usually movement of hands and legs are called dynamic verbs.
Kick
You kicked the ball. | تم نے گیند کو لات ماری۔ |
Come
She will come home. | وہ گھر آجائے گی۔ |
- We can use dynamic Verbs to form the continuous tenses.
to play | I am playing with my friends. | میں اپنے دوستوں کے ساتھ کھیل رہا ہوں۔ |
to eat | She was eating lunch with him. | وہ اس کے ساتھ دوپہر کا کھاناکھا رہی تھی۔ |
to speak | We will be speaking with him late. | ہم اس کے ساتھ دیر سے بات کریں گے۔ |
Main Verb?/ Action verb
Verbs that show physical activity are known as action verbs. jumping, cooking, dancing, shouting are action verbs.
Examples:
Jump
He is jumping. | وہ چھلانگ لگا رہا ہے۔ |
Cook
She is cooking. | وہ پکا رہی ہے۔ |
Dance
We were dancing. | ہم رقص کر رہے تھے۔ |
Go
I go to the zoo. | میں چڑیا گھر جاتا ہوں۔ |
Come
We come to the forest. | ہم جنگل میں آتے ہیں۔ |
Eat
She eats the rice. | وہ چاول کھاتی ہے۔ |
Drink

Helping Verb
Verbs that help the main verb in a sentence by extending its meaning.

Regular and irregular verbs with Examples:
Regular Verb:
The verbs that end in -ed or -d to indicate an action in the past are called a regular verb.
For instant:
Turn –turned, play –played.
verbs that do not end in -ed or -d to indicate an action in the past are called irregular verb.
For instant:
sleep –slept, eat –ate.

Transitive Verb
A transitive verb always takes/needs an object.
Object: A noun or pronoun that receives the action.
Examples:

She kissed | She kissed the baby. |
Intransitive verb
- Doesn’t require an Object.
Example:
The old man laughed loudly.
